Mesquite Flat Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California

"Located near the small village of Stove Pipe Wells, the sand dunes at Mesquite Flats are the most readily accessible of those in Death Valley. Standing approximately 200 feet high, the dunes cover an expansive stretch of land north of Tucki Mountain. This mountain range serves as a natural “wind break,” creating a protected area for the vast accumulation of windblown sand. While the area is highly arid, ground water at Mesquite Flats supports plant life, including Creosote bush, Arrowweed and Screwbean Mesquite."
