I've always thought of the lighthouse as part of the long pier and vast waterfront. Standing right next to this aging structure, I was struck by the vibrancy of the red weathered paint, particularly in contrast to the bright blue sky. Never noticed before, other facets of the lighthouse also presented wonderful photographic opportunities: graffiti images etched, drawn and painted onto the lighthouse; massive rivets and metal bands binding the structure together; and, dramatic changes in the tone and intensity of red color due to the circular shape of the lighthouse.

A B&W Polarizer filter was used to reduce glare on the surface of the lighthouse in all three photographs, and to darken the sky.

Exposures were unrecorded, but a small aperature was used to maximize the depth of field, e.g., F/22. Nikon D200 camera, Nikkor 18 - 70 mm F/4 G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom lens. The camera was handheld, without a tripod.
